There is a strange thing that happens when wisdom starts opening. We recognize the vitality of silence. And in sharing what we have learned, some small piece of truth that we have gathered from our corner of consciousness, we release it. None of us has all the truth. None of us is without all of the truth. It is a blanket. And we are all warmed by it.

And sometimes, to invite a deeper wisdom in, to make room for the next learning, we must clear out what we know. We must share.

And so here are some things I have learned from the woods and water:

I am very, very small. Life in incredibly fragile. If we look close enough at the forest floor, or in any lake, we notice that death is courageous. There must always be death. Lightening must strike the 400 year old pine. She must fall. Thousands of moose die every year – by wolves and by the hands of humans. Each living, breathing creature is a miracle. At any moment, we too could become dust.

If I am still alive, breathing, living, here, writing…I would like to make use of this time. There are greater cycles at play that I cannot comprehend. I would like to serve them.

I am one part known. I am at least a billion parts unknown. I do not know if the shapes in dark woods are birch and cedar trees, or wolves. I don’t know what is underneath all this black, lovely water. I certainly don’t know who I will be tomorrow.

There is always tomorrow. When we sleep, worlds are birthed, live, and die. And too many clouds pass overhead in the dark that even if we could see them, they are too many to count. And just because it has rained for 5 days in a row, does not mean it will rain again tomorrow. In fact, bless this rain, all of it falling on everything around you. There are places in the world that actually dying of thirst. And you are, today, fed.

If you can allow yourself to dissolve into the molecules of air around an orange sunset, you will always have peace.

I’ll say it again, this world has cycles that we do not understand. Death today can mean life tomorrow. If one end of the world is out of balance, another realm must compensate. The scales are constantly adjusting. We are a small piece of all of this. A spot of flesh, on a rock, by a lake, eagles soaring overhead.

The lake, they sky, the sun, the moon, the birds singing your name, all of this is contained in you. You are the sinking sun. Sit with him and see. You are the rising sliver of a moon. Sit with her an know your cycles. You are all the stars in the sky. Look up at them as your father names them one by one, and remember who you came here to be. You are the lake, the body of your mother. Float in her and let your heart be washed clear. There is nothing that you are not.

We have come here to get what we need. We have come here to trust. The rest of the circle will be shown. Something will sing our name through the night – a bird, the wind, the waves, something. Some creature will die so that we can live. And one day, we will die so another world can vibrate into being.
This is reason to dance. This is reason to feel the sun on your skin. This is reason to watch the sky, every day, with tears in your eyes. That sky was made for you. Every second is unrepeatable. You will never look at the same sky twice. It is gone the moment you look. This is vastness. This is beauty. This brings me to tears. We live in an incredible world.

As many of you know, I recently returned from a solo Boundary Waters trip. I am still unraveling everything. This is my offering so far. I am looking forward to sharing some of what I learned at the Kundalini Yoga & the Sacred Circle Retreat this coming week.

Love + Blessings,
