We are made of star stuff. There’s a large part of us that’s connected to the vastness of the cosmos. There’s an entire Universe out there that’s completely unknown to us. Whenever I feel the vastness of our Universe I end up feeling incredibly humbled. This place is so big, so wide, so incredible. We are so small. And somehow, this makes my heart feel so big. What an incredible gift to be alive in this moment, in this magically beautiful Universe! When we start to look a little bit closer at the structure and fabric of our Universe, beauty is everywhere. We are literally standing on, breathing in, and surrounded by more beauty than our eyes, ears, or other senses could ever take in.

(Can you tell I’ve been watching Niel Degrasse Tyson’s Cosmos?)
Feeling this vastness makes us feel big. But it can also make us feel ungrounded. There is a lot of energy moving through us right now. We’re on the end of a wave, a rush of energy. Maybe you’re being knocked over by it, or maybe it’s filling you up, or maybe both! Whatever way you’ve found yourself on the other side of this wave, it’s certain your energy needs to be grounded.

This is a theme I’ve seen come up over the past few weeks with all my clients, students, and friends. There’s so much happening right now, we need to ground – DEEPLY.

If trees are going to grow bigger, wider, broader leaves and branches; they need to ground down first. Their roots need to be able to sustain such wide reaching limbs. We need the same. If we’re going to be stretching ourselves thinner, if we’re going to be giving more than we ever have; then we need to be reaching down into Mother Earth for even more support.

This is what I’ve been doing: Sit down with your feet on the floor (extra points for bare feet in the dirt). Close your eyes and take a few breaths into the back of your body. Sense the parts of you that are touching your chair/couch/etc. Let yourself sink in a bit, feeling that support. Just sense for a couple breaths. Then imagine roots moving out from the soles of your feet – mainly the heels. I like to imagine these roots are blood red. Let them reach down through the layers of the earth’s crust. Let them take hold of the earth like fingers. They spread wide and deep. Now, as far as these roots reach down, they also draw up nourishment. Imagine or feel these roots soaking up nourishment for you. You can see this as red energy moving up through your roots and into your body. Or you can simply feel this tender, soft, moist energy moving below your feet and up into your feet and body. It should feel like it’s quenching a deep thirst. Stay here until you’re quenched.

I’d love to hear how this goes for you if you try it. Remember to let yourself soak in this nourishment for as long as you like. Don’t deprive yourself of any small morsel. The earth needs your roots strong and solid so your branches can spread as wide as the sky.

With Love,
Nicole
