There are those who wish to spend their energy fighting the old, and there are those who wish to build the new. Neither is wrong. I believe we need healthy doses of both.

For the past two weeks, I’ve been sharing some powerful, foundational practices for Embodied Ecstasy. This week, I want to talk to you about titration

Titration is a chemistry term that essentially describes the process of combining two substances that would normally cause a reactive explosion if combined in large doses at once. In titration, we combine small amounts of one substance, slowly, bit by bit, so as not to cause an explosive reaction. Both substances remains stable and eventually combine to create a new substance.

For our purposes, titration can be used to integrate difficult experiences, emotions, trauma, conditioning, etc into our life. Big feelings can be so overwhelming, we just can’t go there. Our nervous systems actually CAN’T process the whole thing all at once. It’s too much.

However over time, bit by bit, we can use titration. We can move between pleasant experiences and big uncomfortable emotions. Both pleasure and pain get to be here. In fact, they weave the beautiful tapestry of our lives. Each thread of emotional/sensational current adding depth, richness, strength to the masterpiece we are.

Try it:

  1. Find some place in your body that feels good. This could be a feeling of safety, love, peace, pleasure, etc. Place your hands there and feel the sensations. Perhaps even speak them aloud. Breathe into this place of pleasure and let it expand, even just a little. If you can’t find a place in your body that feels good, you can also use a divine/sacred source outside of you as a resource.
  2. Now find a place in your body that doesn’t feel good. Maybe a place of pain, tension, discomfort, numbness. Place your hands there and feel the sensations. Perhaps even speak them aloud. Breathe into this uncomfortable place and let it expand, even just a little. Make its sound as you exhale.
  3. Now go back to that place of pleasure. Repeat step 1. Then back to Step 2. Continue moving back and forth between both places a few times. Finish in your place of pleasure. Breathe. Smile into it. Rest.

This practice builds on last week’s. We’re allowing the natural healing current within to arise. And with this week’s practice, we’re adding the healing force of pleasure (or safety or love or…).

We can’t transcend the difficulties of human life. It’s part of the tapestry. We can’t avoid discomfort. But we can weave it with beauty and embody the masterpiece we are. We can train our nervous systems that it’s ok to feel the big heavy feelings, that they won’t consume us. We can train our nervous systems to orient towards beauty, towards pleasure. After a while, perhaps our bodies and souls may even consistently move towards ecstasy.

When we release our need to control our experience, rest in the fullness of this human life, ecstasy is the natural state that arises. It surges forth from our atomic structure when we stop forcing and start loving. We fall in love with what is.

In Embodied Ecstasy, you take yourself on a journey through each major energy center of your body + soul:

Fall in love with your root + genitals
To embody the ecstasy of your sensuality + security

Fall in love with your belly + solar plexus
To embody the ecstasy of your light + power

Fall in love with your heart + breasts
To embody the ecstasy of your love + worthiness

Fall in love with your subtle energy
To embody the ecstasy of your sex + spirit

In each center, we practice simple and profound somatic practices, breath work and visualization, self-massage and taoist tantric techniques, sacred ritual and reflection. All sustained by a regulated nervous system through titration.

Are you ready to bless yourself with the gift of sweet, steady embodiment of ecstasy?
